ZINK SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

We bring to life our dream to be the Best Beer Company in a Better World through Our World. Our Responsibility.

Our goal is to connect our efforts to a collective responsibility we share with our employees, consumers, wholesalers, retailers, law enforcement, elected officials, educators and other partners. After all, these are our roads, our kids, our neighborhoods and this is our Earth; and it is our obligation to work together to help support our communities.

Budweiser, Bud Light and other brands also take ownership of our Corporate Social Responsibility efforts by creating consumer centric programs for adults. These programs enhance brand sponsorships and through our work with wholesalers, we reach consumers with impactful messages at the point of purchase and at a variety of beer-drinking occasions, including sports games, concerts and other events.

Alcohol Responsibility

Responsible Drinking – Anheuser-Busch has a vested interest in the responsible consumption of our products. No company wants to see its products misused, which is why brewers, working in conjunction with wholesalers and retailers, play an active role in promoting alcohol responsibility.

As part of our effort to encourage responsible drinking, the following are a sample of our key initiatives:

Good Sport is an in-stadium, fan-focused Designated Driver program. Anheuser-Busch developed the program in 1986 to help team owners, facility managers, event promoters and wholesalers promote responsible alcohol consumption among adult sports fans. The program is activated in partnership with 98 teams in Major League Baseball, the National Football League, National Basketball Association, National Hockey League and Major League Soccer and select NASCAR tracks. Where legal, Good Sport in-game winners are entered into the TEAM Coalition Responsibility Has Its Rewards sweepstakes (rhir.org.)

Whether you’re hosting a party or just hanging out with friends, it’s important to serve and drink alcohol beverages responsibly. For those occasions, Anheuser-Busch and our wholesalers distribute the Bud Light Party Code, available in English and Spanish, which provides tips to help party hosts assure guests consume alcohol beverages responsibly and make it home safely.

To support retailers, Anheuser-Busch provides Training for Intervention Procedures (TIPS), which educates bartenders, wait staff and store clerks about how to properly check IDs and identify and prevent potential alcohol abuse situations. Developed by Morris Chafetz, M.D., the founding director of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, the program also discusses techniques through which servers can help prevent drunk driving, such as calling a cab for patrons who may have had too much to drink, or encouraging friends to provide a safe-ride home.

Drunk Driving Prevention – Anheuser-Busch is opposed to drunk driving and we believe it is 100 percent preventable. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, drunk-driving fatalities have decreased 53 percent since 1982 to record lows, but we recognize there is still work to be done.  As part of our effort to prevent drunk driving, we have key initiatives like the Budweiser Designate a Driver campaign and Bud Light safe ride home programs, including Bud Light Alert Cab and Bud Light Tow to Go.

Anheuser-Busch and our nationwide network of wholesalers implement numerous Budweiser designated driver programs in markets throughout the country that promote the use of designated drivers at bars, restaurants and home gatherings.  To say “thank you,” our wholesalers work with bars and restaurants to provide designated drivers with free non-alcohol beverages or discounts on food in exchange for refraining from drinking on that occasion and thus helping to make sure the people in their group have a safe ride home.

Bud Light Alert Cab brings together local distributors, cab companies, and retail establishments to provide free or reduced-fare cab rides to bar and restaurant patrons.

Bud Light Tow to Go is a partnership with AAA Auto Club South, operating in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and, Charlotte, NC, through which retailers and consumers arrange for vehicles to be towed home free of charge with the consumer riding in the tow truck. More than 13,500 rides have been provided since 1998.

In 2012, 90% of Anheuser-Busch wholesalers promoted the Budweiser Designate a Driver campaign, including working with more than 73,000 law enforcement agencies.

A-B wholesalers supported the Bud Light Safe-Ride Home program by providing more than 2.1 million safe rides home from bars and restaurants since 1989.

Anheuser-Busch and our Washington, D.C., area distributors support the Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP), an alcohol-education group. The organization’s SoberRide™ program offers free cab-ride services to adults who may have had too much to drink. Since 1993, SoberRide™ has provided more than 50,000 free cab rides home to area residents, keeping potential drunk drivers off the road. Anheuser-Busch and our Washington D.C.-area wholesalers received the 2010 Corporate Partnership Award from WRAP for our ongoing commitment to helping to prevent drunk driving in the Washington-metropolitan area.

Scooter Programs, sponsored by Anheuser-Busch and our distributors, are available in select markets. If an adult needs a safe ride home, an independent representative rides a foldable scooter to meet the customer at his or her vehicle, places the scooter in the trunk and drives that person home.

Bud Light Lime Water Safety, with support from the National Safe Boating Council, reminds boaters, water skiers and other water recreation enthusiasts to be responsible on the water in all activities. The program includes consumer materials that offer tips on using a designated driver, hypothermia, safety equipment and distress signals.

Underage Drinking Prevention – Anheuser-Busch is opposed to underage drinking and supports prevention by providing resources to parents, retailers and educators. Underage drinking is a serious issue – but tremendous progress has been made through sound educational programs and rigorous enforcement of the law.

We’ve developed and supported community-based programs that help parents talk with their children about drinking; help retailers educate their employees on how to properly check I.D.s and prevent sales to minors; remind adults not to provide alcohol to minors; assist schools in building self-esteem among teens; and support law enforcement officials in enforcing the law.

Anheuser-Busch also helps secure premium advertising space in national magazines, on popular websites and on billboards nationwide for the Federal Trade Commission’s “We Don’t Serve Teens” campaign. First launched in 2006, We Don’t Serve Teens provides parents and other adults with tools and information to prevent underage drinking. Information about the program is available at www.DontServeTeens.gov.

College Setting – Recognizing that the college environment is a mix of underage students and  21+ students, we are careful to ensure that we reach the right audience with the appropriate information.  Our underage drinking prevention resources for parents and educators, combined with our wholesalers’ training and ID initiatives with their local retailers,  provide the foundation of our efforts to keep alcohol out of the hands of students under the legal drinking age.  For college students who are 21 and older and choose to drink, we emphasize the importance of drinking responsibly, which include programs to prevent drunk driving and the purchase of alcohol for underage friends.

The following initiatives have been developed as part of Anheuser-Busch’s efforts to promote responsible behavior on college campuses:

Environment

Water Conservation

Water is a key ingredient in beer and vital to life on the planet, which is why Anheuser-Busch is committed to conserving and protecting this precious natural resource from Seed to Sip.

Seed – At our Seed Research Facility in Fort Collins, Colorado, we are working to identify barley seed that can use up to 40% less water for the same yield.

Agriculture – Through our SmartBarley project, we work with barley farmers across the country to help them benchmark their inputs and outputs and improve their performance.  We’ve also partnered with the University of Idaho and the Bureau of Reclamation to install 9 Agrimet stations in key barley growing regions in Southern Idaho and Montana.  The stations deliver real-time weather data to growers of barley and other crops to help them water smarter.  The pilot program helped growers reduce their water use between 9 and 23 percent.

Watershed – Each year our employees in all of our brewery markets as well as several other Anheuser-Busch facility locations join local partners to improve rivers, lakes, and beaches.  We remove thousands of pounds of trash and debris, remove invasive species, plant trees and native grasses to improve filtration and run off, and more.  Additionally, we’ve partnered with The Nature Conservancy in Fort Collins, CO to help prevent future catastrophic forest fires both by analyzing and implementing a demonstration of forest management practices.  We’ve partnered with California Trout to restore hydrological function in the Mammoth Lakes Basin as one of the sources of water that ultimately reaches Los Angeles.

Brewery – We’ve made great strides to reduce our water use in our breweries.  Through innovation, technology, and commitment from our employees, we’ve reduced our water use by nearly 50% over the last 10 years at our U.S. breweries.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – We make strategic reductions to our fiber, aluminum and glass packaging which has significant benefits to the environment.  Since 2009, we’ve reduced the material in our packaging by more than 75,000 tons.  This helps:

– Reduce the depletion of natural resources,

– Reduce the greenhouse gas emissions to create the packaging, and

– Reduce the waste that goes to recycling streams or landfills.

The Anheuser-Busch Recycling Corporation was established in 1978 and has helped our company be a leading aluminum recycler.

Energy Conservation – Anheuser-Busch is committed to reducing the energy and emissions in both the brewing and transportation of our beers.

Our operations have reduced energy use by more than 25 percent since 2008 and today more than 11 percent of our energy is generated from renewable resources, including biomass, wind and landfill gas. Examples of how our state-of-the-art breweries are using innovative ways to source energy include:

Bio-Energy Recovery Systems (BERS): Anheuser-Busch is the world’s largest operator of BERS, a method of turning the nutrients in wastewater from the brewing process into renewable biogas. Used at ten U.S. breweries, BERS is responsible for generating approximately 8 percent of our fuel needs. Our communities also benefit from our use of BERS technology because it lowers the electricity demand on community wastewater treatment facilities by reducing organic material in the leftover water. Substituting biogas for fossil fuels also reduces brewery emissions of carbon dioxide and reduces other air pollutants that would result from community wastewater treatment facilities.

Landfill Gas: More than 60 percent of the Houston, TX brewery’s steam requirements are supplied by capturing biogas emitted from decomposing materials at area landfills. This alternative fuel option reduces the use of fossil fuels.

Solar and Wind Power: Solar arrays are located at our Newark, N.J., Fairfield, CA, and Cartersville, GA breweries as well as installations at our Eagle Packaging plant and our corporate offices in St. Louis. At peak production, the arrays provide 2.7 MW of electricity. The renewable energy from these arrays are sold to third parties.

In 2014,we commissioned a second wind turbine for our Fairfield, CA brewery. With the additional turbine online, the Fairfield brewery has the ability to produce more energy that it consumes, and exports the extra power back to the electrical grid

Nutri-Turf Farms: Located near the Jacksonville, FL and Fort Collins, CO breweries, Anheuser-Busch’s Nutri-Turf farms apply nutrient-rich leftover water from the brewing process to help grow crops.

Transportation Logistics: Anheuser-Busch aspires to be the brewing industry leader in sustainable logistics. To accomplish the mission, we focus on shipping the fewest loads possible at the lowest emission transportation methods.

We utilize our logistics planning systems to completely fill out each load to the legal limit, partner with over 30 other companies to share empty trailer space and eliminate empty miles, and constantly look to engineer solutions to service customer demand with the fewest miles possible.

To reduce greenhouse gas emissions, our Houston brewery converted their entire fleet to 23% cleaner-burning Compressed Natural Gas engines. We have tripled the use of intermodal transportation over the past four years and recently added capabilities into the St. Louis brewery to ship train cars full of beer eliminating the need for up to four trucks per rail car shipped.

Community

Education – One of the best ways to enhance the enjoyment of life is to pursue passions and interests.  Education makes this pursuit possible.  Anheuser-Busch values the impact education has on individual lives and the community as a whole through support to organizations. Our goal is to support programs and organizations that provide access to and successful completion of higher education degrees.

We are proud to work with these partners:

Hispanic Scholarship FundDuring his 2010 and 2011 concert tour, Mexican singing legend Vicente “El Rey” Fernández, along with Budweiser, brought together two of his passions—music and education—to help raise funds for the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF). As part of Budweiser’s longtime commitment to the Hispanic community, El Rey and the King of Beers donated a scholarship to a local college student for each of the performances on his tour. Anheuser-Busch provided $200,000 for this special partnership program. In total, Anheuser-Busch provided the HSF with closer to $1 million in support in the last two years, including donating $500 to the HSF for each goal scored during the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ in South Africa. Since 1982, Anheuser-Busch, Budweiser and our wholesalers have donated more than $24 million to HSF, the nation’s leading non-profit organization that supports Hispanic higher education.

The Anheuser-Busch Foundation also matches employee contributions to educational institutions and funds through the Matching Gift Program, which matches up to $5,000 a year for each individual donor. Through the Matching Gift Program, Anheuser-Busch and our employees have provided nearly $13 million to support education over the last five years.

UNCFTo live up to the ideal expressed in UNCF’s universally-recognized motto, ”A mind is a terrible thing to waste,”® UNCF helps students go to and through college by awarding 10,000 students each year through 400 scholarship and internship programs so that students from low- and moderate-income families can afford college tuition, books and room and board.  Partners for more than 35 years, Anheuser-Busch and its Foundation have given millions of dollars to support the mission on the UNCF. Including our founding sponsorship of the UNCF An Evening of Stars® in 1974.

Teach For AmericaThe Anheuser-Busch Foundation donated $150,000 to the Teach For America Corps–St. Louis, which Anheuser-Busch has supported since the program first came to St. Louis. Anheuser-Busch executives, including North America Zone president Luiz Edmond, were also guest teachers at St. Louis public schools, visiting the classrooms of Teach For America teachers to impart lessons that draw on their experience in business and beyond.

Economic Development – Strengthening a community requires hard work and Anheuser-Busch values organizations willing to put equity into building structures and programs that enhance others’ enjoyment and quality of life.

Examples of recent efforts in this area include:
